This past weekend, I had the opportunity to speak to a group of ladies at a Tea Party. As I was preparing the message, I walked outside of my home and looked at the flowers that were planted. I was admiring the growth and the beautiful colors that had bloomed. I remember thinking, how can something so beautiful keep its beauty while living outside in harsh weather conditions such as rain, high winds and the scorching sun. Now, I don’t know much about the anatomy of flowers and I didn’t do any research, but I just came to the conclusion that they were just built for it.
The longer I stood there, the more I admired the strength of the flower. What started off as a simple, tiny seed was now a beautiful eye-catching plant! I thought about the process of going from a seed to a flower! Truth is, the flower is already in the seed…the seed just has to go through a process in order for the flower to bloom. As beautiful as the flower is, the process is very ugly! First, the seed is thrown to the ground. Then, it’s buried in dirt. Next, it’s drowned in water. And finally, it’s exposed to the sun. Depending on the flower you want, this process may be a little different. But for your standard flower, these are the steps. Needless to say, the message I had prepared initially went out the window!
Compare yourself to a flower. Just think about it, we all start off as seeds of some kind. Simple and tiny, until we go through the perfect storm to bring out what we have on the inside. Often times we are thrown to the ground, buried in dirt, drowned in water, and exposed to heated conditions. No, it doesn’t feel good, it doesn’t look good, but guess what? You’re built for it. I can see your roots being planted! I can see you beginning to blossom! You’re blooming! Because you’re a flower! Harsh conditions don’t kill us, they grow us!
